batting!
March 19, 2010
My box of batting has arrived! JoAnn‘s had 40% off all packaged batting last week. I knew by the time I went to one of the stores, the selection would be pretty picked over, so I thought I’d take a chance and order online. Now, I’ve had some friends who’ve had poor experiences with online ordering and shipping from JoAnn in the past, so I was a smidge worried, but I have to say, I got all my batting in less than a week with no issues. I even found a free shipping coupon, so the cost wouldn’t be any different from going to the store and it was magically be delivered to my doorstep! I never even had to put on clothes.
I usually get 80%/20% cotton/poly or 100% cotton battings for my quilts. I like the way they crinkle in the wash, and I like the lightweight thinness. However, some 100% PVA fiber batting* caught my eye on the site so I had to investigate. Apparently, PVA=Ingeo, which (I learned a few years ago at my work) is a fiber product made from corn. Corn batting! I just had to try it. And how apropos would corn batting be for a food pyramid?? Talk about meta. It seems to have mixed reviews, but I can’t wait to try it out myself!
* Yeah, it says 10% on the website. I thought they might actually mean 100%, since I didn’t see any other components listed, so I took a chance, and I was right.

Remind me to come deliver stuff to your house if that’s the way it’s gonna go! Speaking of meta, what kind of batting are you gonna pick someday when you make a baseball quilt?
